Russian rocket with 3 satellites explodes in Kazakhstan
An unmanned Russian rocket exploded on Tuesday, seconds after liftoff from a launch pad in Kazakhstan, reported state news agency. There were no immediate reports of casualties. The Proton-M rocket carrying three satellites of the Global Positioning System and Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS), reported RIA Novosti news agency. Glonass is the Russian equivalent to the Global Positioning System of the United States, or GPS. The rocket had taken off from the Baikonur space center, on a pitch that was broadcast live. Seconds later, he changed course, burst into flames and fell headlong to the ground. In 2010, another Proton-M rocket carrying three satellites crashed into the Pacific Ocean.
