Alice in Wonderland sequel is coming soon in 2016

2010's Alice In Wonderland was not only the second biggest movie released that year behind Toy Story 3, but became one of the biggest movies ever bringing in over 1 billion at the worldwide box office. It's currently the 14th highest grossing film worldwide and one of only 16 films ever to join the billion dollar club. With those kinds of numbers, it was inevitable a sequel would follow. The film has been in development for several years and now it looks like Disney is finally ready to begin production and have set a 2016 release date - May 27th, 2016 to be exact. Johnny Depp will return as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska will be back in the title role as Alice. Not returning for the sequel is director Tim Burton. In his place will be The Muppets helmer James Bobin.
