Guatemala has a new president

The experienced jurist, diplomat and politician Guatemalan Alejandro Maldonado Aguirre swore today as the new president of Guatemala to complete the term of office from 2012 to 2016. Maldonado assumed the vice presidency in May replacing Roxana Baldetti, who resigned to appear in a network involved in customs fraud, disclosure of the existence of this network of corruption provoked mass popular demonstrations that demanded the departure of Perez, who resigned Wednesday night.
