All details of the Pope Francis's Mass in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas

On his third day of activities, Pope Francisco offers a Mass before 90,000 people at the Municipal Sports Center of San Cristobal de las Casas. This is the first visit by a pope to the state of Chiapas. The temple where officiates Mass was created as a replica of the Cathedral of San Cristobal, the steps of the pyramid of Palenque and images of the waterfalls of Agua Azul. The Holy Father did not use the traditional silver censer bulbs at the beginning of the Mass, but an indigenous mud incense. After blessing the altar, indigenous communities participated in the mass reading in their own languages. Subsequently, the Gospel, taken from Chapter 25 of St. Matthew was read in Tzeltal language under the watchful gaze of the Pope and the entire indigenous community that attends Mass. It is expected that the Pope celebrates Mass in Spanish, and parts of the ceremony are in Tzotzil and Tzeltal, two of the indigenous languages spoken in Chiapas. Approximately 300 deacons are at Mass, who distributed communion to those attending the Mass.
