3 Volcanos erupt in Indonesia
The eruptions of three volcanoes in Indonesia darkened the sky part of Indonesia and forced to divert some flights. Mount Rinjani on Lombok island, near Bali; Sinabung volcano on the island of Sumatra and Gamalama chain Moluccas islands have erupted in recent days. No one was injured, but flights in two airports have been affected. Sultan Babullah airport in Ternate, capital of North Maluku province, closed on Wednesday. Lombok International Airport closed Tuesday several hours. The three mountains are among the approximately 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia. The archipelago with 250 million people, is prone to earthquakes and volcanoes because it lies on the "Ring of Fire" Pacific, a series of failures in the Pacific Ocean. The Gamalama and reentered Sinabung erupted Tuesday night, hurling debris into the air, said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the Indonesian Disaster Management Agency. Hot ash fell down the slopes of Sinabung and came to a river two thousand meters (yards) south. Farms and trees around the three volcanoes were covered in gray ash, but the towns and villages were not in danger, Nugroho said. More than 13 thousand people have been evacuated by volcanic eruptions since last year, mostly around the slopes of Sinabung.
