Shooting at polling Azusa, California; Report one dead and 3 injured
Police arrived at the scene of a gunfight in Azusa, California, this Tuesday, November 8 election day in the United States. According to preliminary reports, a gunman opened fire in a residential neighborhood of Azusa, injuring four people, and then kept a firefight with officers arriving to respond to complaints received from the polling place. The incident was reported at 2:40 pm on West Fourth Street and North Orange Avenue, officials said. Aerial imagery showed firefighters installing red, yellow, and green tarps on the streets while members of a SWAT team began evacuation work in the neighborhood. A helicopter from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department must have transferred an injured person to the hospital. One of the people on the scene, Elizabeth Hopkinson, said she and her 9-month-old son were locked up at Slauson Middle School, very close to the polling place. He said he would leave his ballot when the shooting occurred. She said she heard, "prisoners of war, prisoners of war, then heard a flurry of shots."
