Robertson beats Dott to win Snooker World C'ship
Neil Robertson became just the first Australian since 1952 to win the world championship, claiming a 18-13 win in a marathon finale over Scotland's Graeme Dott. Robertson took a 9-7 lead after the first two sessions. And the Australian continued to take uphand when he made it 10-8 overall. But Dott stayed in contention, with a break of 112 in the 23th frame, Dott trimmed it to one frame game. This was also a first century in the final. The Scot then hit a 72 in the 25th frame, making it 13-12. But Robertson staged a big comeback, claiming 14th and 15th frame for 15-13 up heading into the final session. When the play resumed, the 28-year-old began to take control, snatching the 29th frame, stretching his lead to 16-13 three frames. When Dott sat and watched, Robertson continued to dominate, clinching the next frame, taking a comfortable 4 frame cushion, one frame from win. And the Australian blasted a 93 in the deciding frame, to win the final with a 18-13 triumph for his first World Championship title. The win capped off a real rags to riches story for the Australian from Melburne. He once quit the sport due to lack of fund, but made his return only with 500 pounds to his name.
