Catastrophe by rains in Lima, Peru
The climate emergency that has ravaged several regions in the North of the Peru this week has spread to the rest of the country. Since Wednesday, the abundant rains and huaicos - floods of water, rocks and mud - also hit areas of the South and the Centre, including Lima. Death toll reaches 62, 12 of whom have died in the past three days, according to official sources. The volume of water that evaporates by the high temperatures (with peaks of 29 degrees centigrade from January) is very high and to condense in the sierra unleashes storms supercharging the basins of water. The storm affects the 24 regions of the country and has caused more than 62,000 victims (14,000 of them in the Northern Piura), according to official reports. There are 7.974 collapsed homes, 1,231 kilometers of roads destroyed, as well as numerous bridges useless and large tracts of farmland affected
