Vote for Trump and now her husband faces deportation

Helen Berstain, who lives in Indiana, gave her support to Donald Trump because she is in favor of the expulsion of criminals. An Indiana-based American voted for the Republican, but her Mexican husband could be deported this Friday. But her husband, Roberto Beristain, an undocumented 43-year-old, is likely to be sent to Mexico after deportation priorities changed and was arrested on a routine appointment with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in early February. She and her three children are worried that her husband will be deported this very Friday. Trump did say that good people would not be deported, Helen told Indiana Public Media. Roberto, who lives in Mishawaka, was arrested on Feb. 6 when he went to an annual meeting with ICE officials and was transferred to a facility in Kenosha, Wisconsin. This 43-year-old Mexican from Mexico City and owner Eddie's Steak Shed, a popular restaurant in northern Indiana, received a voluntary deportation order from a New York immigration judge in 2000. He and his wife mistakenly crossed over to Canada during a trip they made to Niagara Falls, where agents at the border discovered that they lived in the country without documents, Helen told The South Bend Tribune. Despite the order, Roberto decided to remain in US territory because his wife was pregnant and had health problems. Since then, he has not missed any of his appointments avoiding expulsion, has not violated the law and has no record, his brother Jose told Univision. In fact, he obtained a work permit, a driver's license and even a Social Security number, although marked with a Valid only with the authorization of the Department of Homeland Security. He became a model resident, as defined by Pete Buttigieg, South Bend's Democratic Mayor, located near Granger. In an article published in The Huffington Post, Buttigieg said that among the many who have shown their desire not to be deported are a large group of politically conservative people. They are residents of small towns in Indiana, veterans and grandparents who frequent their restaurant. They defend him as a man whom a friend can proudly call, the Mayor wrote. In the text, he mentions the case of a person who voted for Trump because I believed he was promising a process to expel undocumented immigrants who have committed acts against the United States. But he also believed that he would correct the problems that prevent an immigrant, who brings great things to the country, become a citizen. " In the 20 years that Roberto was residing in the United States nothing had changed, except that in November the country voted for a new President who based his campaign largely on denouncing illegal immigration. His arrest came only a few days after Donald Trump's arrival in the White House and, not coincidentally, after he modified deportation priorities. His stepson, explained to The South Bend Tribune that Tuesday night was the last time they spoke to him. However, he added, the locator that has and can be tracked on the ICE website does not provide its current location. A spokeswoman for the Immigration Office told them Wednesday that, for security reasons, no information is being provided on the movement of detainees.
