Dayton mass shooting suspect identified as 24-year-old Connor Betts
The body armor-clad gunman who fatally shot nine people in a popular Dayton, Ohio nightlife district early Sunday has been identified in a report as Connor Betts. Betts, 24, who was shot dead by cops moments into his rampage, was identified as the shooter by CBS News, citing law-enforcement sources. Investigators were tossing Betts’ home in Bellbrook, Ohio — about 15 miles southeast of Dayton — on Sunday, sources told the network. Nine people were killed and another 26 people injured when the shooter opened fire with a .223 high-capacity rifle around 1 a.m. Sunday, authorities said in a press conference shortly after the shooting. Cops stationed nearby in the city’s hopping Oregon District, home to rows of popular restaurants, bars and theaters, raced into action, downing the gunman less than a minute after the onslaught began. Officials did not immediately identify a motive behind the attack, which came just about 13 hours after a rifle-toting gunman in El Paso, Texas
