Estrómboli volcano in Italy erupts with a large explosion and lava and ash emissions

The volcano on the island of Stromboli, in southern Italy, erupted on Wednesday spilling lava into the sea and sending huge columns of hot ashes to the sky. Italy's national fire department, the Vigili del Fuoco, tweeted that the volcano erupted at 12:17 local time.
