RUSSIAN ATTACK on Zaporiyia NUCLEAR POWER PLANT causes FIRE and WORLD ALARM

An attack on the ninth day of the war in Ukraine has caused a fire at the Energodar nuclear power plant in Zaporiyia, the largest in Europe, which has caused alarm around the world. The fire, which started in an administrative building outside the perimeter of the plant, has been extinguished and the plant has fallen into the hands of Russian troops. Plant personnel are monitoring the condition of the blocks and their proper operation, according to the Ukrainian state nuclear regulator. The plant's reactors remain intact, although there has been damage to the reactor compartment building of power unit number 1, which does not affect reactor safety. "Systems and elements important for the safety of the nuclear power plant are functioning. No changes in the radiation status have been registered at the present time," the regulator has assured. Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky has accused Russia of "nuclear terrorism" and of wanting to repeat the Chernobyl plant disaster of 1986. "Europe must wake up now!" he warned. Russia has already seized the remains of Chernobyl, some 100 kilometers north of Kiev. Ukraine has 15 operational reactors in four atomic plants.
