This is how the attack against journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva took place.
Mexican journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva suffered an armed attack on Thursday night when he was traveling in his van in Mexico City. "At 11:10 pm, 200 meters from my house, two people on a motorcycle shot at me, apparently with the clear intention of killing me. I was saved by the armor of my truck that I was driving and I have informed the authorities of the matter," said the host of Imagen Televisión's nightly news program, who shared a couple of hours later that he was physically well and had already given his statement to the authorities. "Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your messages. I am fine. I was saved by the armor of my truck". The attack involved a black vehicle and a motorcycle, which was already following Gómez Leyva from the television studios. City cameras reveal the trajectory of the motorcycle until it was lost track of at around 11.18 p.m. in the State of Mexico, with whose police authorities the city's security forces are already coordinating, as explained by the city's police chief, Omar García Harfuch, at a press conference together with the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum. It was a direct attack on the journalist. Two shell casings were found at the scene of the shooting, but "obviously there are more," said Harfuch. The journalist and his family are now protected by police protection.
