AMLO rejects Republicans' initiative on military intervention
AMLO reaffirmed that Mexico is a free, independent and sovereign country, and therefore will not allow foreign governments or its Armed Forces to intervene in national territory. In response to recent statements made by Republican legislators from the United States, the Chief Executive made it clear that "Mexico is respected. We are not a protectorate or a colony of the United States; (...) we do not take orders from anyone, the people of Mexico are in charge here". In a morning press conference from the National Guard Intelligence Center, he emphasized that the expressions of congressmen and senators of the Republican Party do not come from the US government, headed by President Joseph Biden, so that cooperation will continue with the purpose of solving security issues. "It is not the government of President Biden, it is the Republicans (...) It is an arrogant, treacherous, majestic and, of course, interventionist attitude", he said. As of Thursday, the Mexican government will begin an information campaign aimed at Mexican nationals and Hispanics living in the United States to inform them of the intentions of this conservative faction during the election season, the president announced. "If they do not change their attitude and think that they are going to use Mexico for their propaganda, electoral and political purposes, we are going to call on them not to vote for this party, because it is interventionist, inhuman, hypocritical and corrupt," he remarked. "We are going to insist that not a single vote of Mexicans, Hispanics, of those who love their homeland, (...) not a single vote for the Republicans, whoever they may be. We will not allow the dignity of Mexico, which is an independent, sovereign people, to be affected; it cost a lot and where they are talking about all that, it was Mexico's, do not forget that," he added. The president pointed out the lack of legislative actions of the Republican Party related to addictions and arms sales. "They are doing it for propaganda purposes. They already grabbed the fentanyl issue, that 'it is Mexico's responsibility'. Here we do not produce fentanyl and we do not have fentanyl consumption. We are very sorry for what is happening in the United States, but why don't they deal with the problem? Why don't they combat the distribution of fentanyl, the U.S. cartels that are in charge of distributing fentanyl? And more to the point, why don't they take care of their young people? Why don't they take care of their serious problem of social decomposition? Why don't they temper the constant increase in drug consumption? Why do they even allow drugs to be legal in the United States?", he questioned. "Why are high-powered weapons being marketed, as if it were a question of buying any merchandise without any control? Eighty percent of the high-powered weapons used by crime in Mexico are sold in the U.S. (...) What is more, some legislators are financed for their campaigns by the companies that produce the weapons," he added. In a circular dialogue with representatives of the media, the president indicated that, following these expressions, the federation will seek sanctions in due course.
