Film between drama and science fiction based on the book of the same name by Alasdair Gray. The film tells the incredible and fantastic story of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a young woman who has been revived by Doctor Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe), a brilliant but unorthodox scientist. Under the protection of Baxter, her mentor, Bella's only desire is to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she lacks, Bella runs away with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a sophisticated lawyer with a wicked streak. Together they will live a dizzying adventure across continents, in which Bella, free from the prejudices of her time, will be firm in her purpose to defend equality and liberation.
