Valentina Cancela case: the keys to the investigation

The murder of Valentina Cancela shocked the country. Her ex-partner, a young minor, first declared to the authorities that she had decided to stay at the beach when he decided to leave. The authorities were already aware that the young man had three complaints of violence made by the victim's mother. On Wednesday afternoon the search was intensified in the beach area with police and prefecture personnel. One of the keys to the investigation was the drone that detected a strange movement in the sand, where Valentina's backpack was buried, about 15 centimeters from the surface. After this finding, the authorities raided her ex-partner's house and arrested the 17-year-old teenager. This was the turning point of the case, because when he was interrogated again he confessed to Valentina's crime. The young man was taken to the beach and told the authorities that he had buried the body in a dune on the beach. The adolescent was detained and placed under the care of INAU. As he was a minor, the law stipulates that he has to stay in an INISA facility, but there is only infrastructure in the departments of Montevideo, Canelones and Lavalleja. Therefore, the adolescent had to be transferred to the capital of the country.
