Maria Ressa: Philippine Nobel laureate acquitted of tax evasion

Philippine Nobel laureate Maria Ressa was acquitted on September 12, 2023, of the last of five tax evasion charges against her. The verdict was another legal victory for the veteran journalist in a case that has dragged on for nearly five years. A staunch critic of former president Rodrigo Duterte, Ressa and the newsite she co-founded, Rappler, still continue to face uncertainty as they have two more cases against them in court.
