American explorer trapped in Turkish cave pulled to safety after nine-day effort

American cave explorer Mark Dickey was rescued on September 12, 2023, following nine days of being trapped in one of Turkey’s deepest caves. Dickey fell ill at a depth of more than 1,120 metres (3,695ft) on September 2, 2023, while exploring the Morco Cave in the Taurus Mountains. An international team of 200 rescuers worked to retrieve him.
