Keir Starmer defends call for humanitarian pause in Gaza

During a Q&A after a speech in Durham, the Labour leader said he thought a humanitarian pause, rather than a ceasefire, would be 'the quickest and the most practical way' to get aid into Gaza amid the Israel-Hamas conflict. He said: 'For me this isn’t about the particular position taken by individuals within the party. It’s about alleviating that suffering. Just at the moment we desperately need humanitarian aid to get in faster into Gaza'
