Halloween and Day of the Dead are not the same! Find out what the differences are
November is plagued with celebrations of death. Halloween and Day of the Dead are two commemorations that year after year generate a stir among Mexicans for their activities and festivities. However, the origin of each one is particular and encompasses a series of deep-rooted customs that have turned them into the acclaimed celebrations we know today. On the one hand, Halloween saw its beginnings in the Celtic culture, where October 31 was considered the end of the year and there was the custom of leaving food, candy and candles outside the houses to guide the souls of the dead. Later, with the rise of Catholicism, the holiday became known as "All Hallow's Eve".
